As I approached my graduation I found myself contemplating some other life-changing events. One of the biggest transformative moments for me was immigrating to Canada from England when I was 12 years old; ever since I have had two homes, one half of me remains rooted to England while the other feels deeply connected to Canada. Home is an important factor influencing our identity—where we grow up greatly impacting our cultural values, attitudes, behaviours and the communities we belong to. For me, one aspect representative of home is the landscapes and nature of that place.
To reflect on this, I created a series of 8x8" paintings depicting my personal Canadian landscapes. Each canvas depicts a different lakeside view from my hometown, Lakefield, Ontario.
